BAEL Players of the Week: June 27-28 & July 4-5

Ben Stewart | 2027 | C/1B | Webber Wildcats | Uncommitted
The Webber Wildcats preseason player of the year has lived up to the hype, especially over the last couple of weeks. In his last 5 games, Stewart went 9 for 15, including 5 extra base hits, 2 of which were homeruns, as well as 7 RBIs, 4 runs, and 3 walks. This brings his 2026 BAEL slashline to .429/.542/.679. He utilizes a short stride to get on-time, with quiet hands that are short to the ball. His eye at the plate is also a weapon, walking 12 times in just 72 plate appearances. Stewart not only has an impact at the dish, but is also one of the top defensive catchers in the BAEL. He frames well behind the dish, and has a strong catch and throw, with a 74 mph arm and 2.02 POP. There’s no doubt the 6-foot-2, 190-pound catcher is one of the top uncommitted 2027s in the province.
Jay Leask | 2027 | C | Red Deer Rangers | Uncommitted
Over the last couple weeks, Leask has been one of the top bats in the BAEL. He went 12 for 24 with 6 doubles, a triple, 12 RBIs, 6 runs, and 5 walks. The 5-foot-10, 180-pound catcher does an impressive job using the entire field, even elevating with some power to his backside. He uses a small leg lift, and even with some movement in his hands, manages to get on time efficiently. He controls the running game well behind the dish as well, with a 76 mph arm. After a bit of a slow start to the year, Leask is getting hot at the right time and has been a major contributor for the Rangers as they make a push for Provincials.
Zach Donovan | 2026 | OF | Calgary Cubs | Edmonton Collegiate
Over the last couple of seasons, Zach Donovan has been one of the most consistent bats in the BAEL. That continued as of late, going 14 for 28 with a double, two triples, 7 RBIs, and 8 runs. Although there isn’t much extra base impact from Donovan, he utilizes his ability to put the bat on the ball and uses the entire field well, elevating mostly to his pullside. He consistently works counts and battles with two strikes. The Edmonton Collegiate commit will be a major contributor for the Cubs as they look to one-up the run they had to the Provincial finals last year.
Seth Clark | 2026 | 1B/RHP | Red Deer Rangers | Prairie Baseball Academy
The Red Deer Rangers product may have just had the most dominant two week stretch of the season. In his last 7 games, Clark went 14 for 17 with 4 doubles, two homeruns, 11 RBIs, 10 runs, and added 2 stolen bases, without striking out a single time. The 6-foot-0, 240-pound PBA commit has always had the ability to put the ball in play, striking out just 4 times in 117 plate appearances. However, this year he has shown more impact with the bat, taking his game to the next level. He currently leads the league in batting average (.526), RBIs (38), Hits (41), OBP (.612), and OPS (1.394). He uses the entire field, but all 4 of his home runs have been to leftfield or centrefield. Clark should continue to be a major contributor for the Rangers and will look to have an impact when he joins PBA in the fall.
