BAEL Players of the Week: June 7 & 8

Nicholas Klemmer | 2025 | LHP/1B | St. Albert Cardinals | Edmonton Collegiate

You’d be hard pressed to find a more dominant pitcher in the BAEL at this point in the season. The 5-foot-10, 150-pound LHP has a league leading 1.22 ERA and hasn’t given up more than one earned run in his last 5 starts, nor has he walked more than two in any of his starts this season. Klemmer has advanced pitchability, as he’s able to locate 3 pitches for strikes and use them in any count. He also gets ahead in at-bats, with a first pitch strike 66% of the time. He doesn’t generate a ton of swing and miss, having struck out 29 in 34.1 innings, but his ability to produce weak contact is a big part of his success. The Edmonton Collegiate commit will look to continue his success on the mound as we near the biggest weekend of the season, BAEL Provincials.

Burke Schulte-Bates | 2025 | OF/RHP | Red Deer Rangers | Prairie Baseball Academy

After a slow start to the season, Schulte-Bates’ bat has come alive for the Red Deer Rangers. In the 4-game set against the Twins this past weekend, he had 5 hits, 3 of which were doubles, and 4 RBIs. 9 of his 13 hits on the year and 6 of his 7 RBIs have come in the last 8 games. There’s physicality in his 6-foot-2, 195-pound frame and his left-handed swing is short to the ball with some bat speed. If the Prairie Baseball Academy commit can continue to swing the bat in this fashion, the already potent Rangers lineup will be that much more dangerous.

Nicholas Carpenter | 2025 | OF | Calgary Bucks  | Prairie Baseball Academy

Despite having less at-bats over the course of a weekend, Carpenter was still very effective for the Calgary bucks. He went 4 for 5 with a double and 3 walks, getting on base in 7 of his 9 plate appearances. It was a slow start to the year for the Prairie Baseball Academy commit, but it looks like he’s turned a corner with 6 hits in his last 14 at-bats. He utilizes a wide base and a strong lower half in the box that allows him to create torque in his swing. There’s athleticism in his 5-foot-8, 170-pound frame and he’s a 7.2 runner. If his bat can stay hot, it’ll be a welcome addition to the Bucks offence.

Kruise McGeough | 2027 | INF/RHP | Red Deer Rangers | Uncommitted

There have been several 2027s to have a big impact for their teams this year, and Kruise McGeough is one of them. The first year BAEL player went 3 for 9 with a double and 3 runs against the Twins. However, his performance over the course of the season is what really stands out. He’s currently slashing .425/.549/.600 with 10 RBIs and 14 runs. His .549 OBP and 1.149 OPS are both good for 3rd in the league. At 6-foot-1, 165-pounds, McGeough can also get his fastball up to the mid-80s on the mound. Red Deer product is a major reason why the Rangers have one of the top offences in the league at this point in the season.

Carter Moffat | 2025 | SS | St. Albert Cardinals | Uncommitted

Moffat is our first 2-time player of the week and there is a good reason for that. During the 4-game set against the Bucks, he went 8 for 12 with 4 extra base hits, 7 runs, and 4 RBIs. He was one hit, albeit a home run, away from the cycle in game 2 on Sunday. The uncommitted senior has one of the most advanced hit tools in the BAEL and a very strong feel for the strike zone, with 18 walks in 77 plate appearances. There’s also strong barrel control with the ability to drive the ball with authority to any part of the field. He currently leads the league in average (.491), slugging (.772), OPS (1.395), is tied for the lead in home runs (3), and second in OBP (.636). The 5-foot-10, 200-pound SS is a 7.0 runner and a player who will make an immediate impact at the next level.
