BAEL Players of the Week: May 3 & 4

Landon O’How | 2026 | C/INF | Calgary Bucks | Uncommitted

Over the last couple of years, there aren’t many players within the province who have improved as much as Landon O’How has. During the Calgary Bucks first week of play, having Opening Weekend off, O’How was a standout going 4 for 7 with 2 doubles, 1 run, and 3 RBIs. At 6-foot-0, 185-pounds, the physicality is evident at the dish, with the ability to drive the ball into either gap for extra bases. He also impressed at the Pre-season BAEL camp, with a strong arm behind the plate, at 76 mph, and a POP time of 2.04. At 6-foot-0, 185-pounds, the uncommitted 2026 will be one to watch on both sides of the ball as the season continues.

Luke Mahar | 2026 | OF/P | Parkland Twins | Uncommitted

There aren't many players who have had an impact on both sides of the ball like Mahar has to start the year. He didn’t allow an earned run over 3 innings while striking out 4 and only allowing 1 hit. His ability to spin the baseball stands out. He has two unique breaking balls that he’s able to spin north of 2750 rpm. The fastball also has life, having been up to 84 mph and spinning it at 2250+ rpm. At the dish, the 5-foot-10, 185-pound two-way player went 4 for 13 with 3 RBIs which brought his early season slashline to .368/.429/.421. Mahar has a simple approach at the dish, short to the ball which allows him to shoot the ball to all fields.

Matthew Schneider | 2025 | OF/P | St. Albert Cardinals | Uncommitted

Schneider might be swinging the hottest bat in the BAEL right now. He has hits in 7 of his 8 games, and was 7 for 10 this past weekend with 2 hits going for extra bases. At 6-foot-1, 180-pounds, he has a short, compact swing that allows him to find the barrel, having only struck out once in 25 plate appearances this year. The uncommitted 2025 won’t blow you away with raw power, however, his feel for the barrel and ability to put the ball in play will be something to watch for as the season continues.

Ethan Savage | 2025 | OF/1B | Calgary Bucks | Minnesota North College - Hibbing

In the Calgary Bucks first weekend of BAEL regular season play, Ethan Savage was another player that had an immediate impact. The Minnesota North College - Hibbing commit went 3 for 6 with 3 walks, 4 runs, and an RBI. His simple approach, with a wide base in the box allows him to drive the ball to any part of the field. With no strikeouts so far, albeit in a small sample size, it wouldn’t surprise us if Savage continues to put the ball in play at a high rate. The 5-foot-9, 190-pound senior will look to continue his strong start when the Bucks visit the Calgary Cubs on May 17th.

Carter Moffat | 2025 | SS/3B | St. Albert Cardinals | Uncommitted

Carter Moffat has one of the more impactful hit tools in the BAEL, and that continued this past weekend going 4 for 10 with a double, homerun, 4 runs, and 2 RBIs. He uses a simple toe-tap to get on time and likes to pull the ball with authority, but has shown the ability to shoot the ball the other way. The impact doesn’t stop there, at 5-foot-10, 200-pounds, Moffat ran a 7.0 60 at the BAEL preseason camp and can play either position on the left side of the infield. Named the St. Albert Cardinals Preseason Hitter of the Year, the uncommitted senior will be a bat that schools should be following.
