BAEL Provincial Championships - Top Performers

Garet Ostapchuk | 2026 | OF/RHP | Parkland Twins | Edmonton Collegiate

Aside from collecting the base hit that won the Parkland Twins the Provincial Championship, Ostapchuk was also one of the top bats all weekend. He finished the weekend with the most hits, going 9 for 14 with a double, homerun, 7 RBIs, 11 runs, 3 walks, and 3 stolen bases. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound two-way also added a clean inning on the mound, getting 3 outs in just 6 pitches. His 6.86 speed is evident on the bases as he wasn’t caught stealing, and it plays in the outfield, tracking balls well and utilizing his speed. The Edmonton Collegiate commit was one of Parkland’s top bats all season, and he played a major role in their Provincial Championship victory.

Owen Finlay | 2027 | RHP | Webber Wildcats | Uncommitted

Finlay got the ball to start game 1 of provincials for the Webber Wildcats and didn’t disappoint. He threw a complete game shutout in 95 pitches, giving up just two hits, walking one, and striking out 7. At 5-foot-10, 150-pounds, he’s an easy mover that still has plenty of room to add strength and fill out. He showed the ability to land 3 pitches for strikes, and would mix in his offspeed to get ahead in counts as well, keeping hitters off balance. He controlled the tempo of the game and induced plenty of weak contact when balls were put in play. With the uncommitted 2027s present pitchability and an offseason of development and growth ahead, he’ll be an arm to watch for as he enters his senior season.

Kade Strandquist | 2026 | RHP\OF | Red Deer Rangers | New Mexico JC

As one of the top two-ways during the Baseball Alberta Elite League’s regular season, it’s no surprise his success continued at the provincial championships. He threw a complete game shutout, striking out 11, allowing just one hit and walking three. He also went 5 for 14 at the dish with a double, home run, 4 RBIs, and 4 runs. On the mound he sat 84-86, and topped out at 87. He threw a first pitch strike 76% of the time and induced plenty of in-zone swing and miss, primarily with the fastball. He also utilized his slider as a strikeout offering, getting hitters to chase it out of the zone. At 6-foot-4, 190-pounds, there’s plenty of upside with more room to add strength. He’ll be heading off to New Mexico JC this fall to start his collegiate career.

Chase Hembling | 2027 | 1B/3B | Parkland Twins | Uncommitted

Along with several other contributors on a talented Parkland Twins roster, Hembling was one of the most impactful bats throughout the Provincial Championship and was a big reason for their success. He finished the weekend going 8 for 15, with two doubles, a triple, two homeruns, 8 RBIs, 9 runs, and 3 walks. He has the unique ability to do damage with the bat while also putting the ball in play on a regular basis, reducing swing and miss. He walks more than he strikes out and can put the ball over the fence in any part of the field. At 6-foot-0, 195-pounds the frame is physical, and since he will be reclassing, the bat will only become more impactful after an offseason of development. The uncommitted senior will be one of the most sought after bats in the BAEL next season.

Anton Neufeld | 2027 | OF | Calgary Cubs | Uncommitted

After a successful 2026 BAEL season as one of the Calgary Cubs top bats, Anton Neufeld carried that momentum into the Provincial Championship and played a major role in the Cubs' run to the semifinals. He finished the weekend going 8 for 12 with 3 doubles, a triple, 3 RBIs, and 6 runs. The 5-foot-11, 165-pound outfielder utilizes a short stride which allows him to get on time and put the bat on the ball. It’s a contact first approach for Neufeld, and more impact in the bat should come after an offseason of development as he enters his senior season.
