Western Canada Prospects Series: Team Alberta 16U - Top Performers

Kayden Blayney | 2028 | SS | Webber Wildcats | Uncommitted

After a successful first season in the BAEL, Kayden Blayney continued to have an impact at the Western Canada Prospect Series (WCPS). He finished the event going 7 for 13, with 3 doubles, 4 RBIs, 8 runs, and 4 walks, adding a stolen base as well. His .538 batting average is good for 2nd all-time at the WCPS, while his 1.419 OPS is good for 3rd all-time. It’s more of a contact first approach for Blayney at the moment, having not struck out a single time in 20 plate appearances. However, there’s no doubt more power will come as he continues to fill out.  The 6-foot-1, 155-pound infielder's impact doesn't stop there. He’s a 7.1 runner and has the tools to be able to stick at shortstop long term. There’s a lot to like with Blayney, and he’ll be a 2028 worth keeping an eye on going forward.

Brady Klawitter | 2028 | C/2B | AHP Renegades | Uncommitted

Klawitter’s bat was one of the many reasons Team Alberta had success at the Western Canada Prospect Series (WCPS). He went 7 for 15, with 3 doubles, a homerun, 5 RBIs, 5 runs, 3 walks, and a stolen base. His 1.446 OPS is good for 2nd all-time at the WCPS. The current impact in his bat is undeniable. He utilizes a bat path that creates launch off the barrel, generally to his pullside, and can drive the ball with authority while doing so. He showed some susceptibility to swing and miss at fastballs up, but an adjustment to his approach should assist with countering that. The 5-foot-8, 185-pound AHP product showed some upside behind the dish as well, with a 2.07 POP and 71 mph arm. It’ll be interesting to see how his bat develops as he heads into his Junior year.

Declan King | 2028 | 3B | ATHX Redhawks | Uncommitted

The 6-foot-5, 195-pound frame of the ATHX Redhawks product catches your eye immediately as it leaves a lot to dream on. He finished the weekend 6 for 13 with a double, triple, 5 RBIs, 3 runs, a stolen base, and two walks. There’s current impact in the bat, utilizing quiet hands while loading and a short stride to easily get on time. While there is some swing and miss at the moment, adjusting his approach and adding some twitch at the plate should help resolve that and allow him to have even more of an impact. With his frame and upside, the sky is the limit for King. He is undoubtedly one of the most intriguing 2028s in the province.

Kaleb Walker | 2028 | LHP | Gulls Prep | Uncommitted

With a strong showing under his belt with Team Alberta at the 2026 Canada Cup, it wasn’t a surprise to see Walker have success at the Western Canada Prospect Series. Walker, who stands at 6-foot-3, 180-pounds, is an easy mover on the mound with a repeatable delivery. Over 8 strong innings he struck out 5, allowing 6 hits and walking only two. His fastball sat 80-82, topping out at 83. He spins the breaking ball for strikes and can generate swing and miss down with his changeup. The upside with Walker is undeniable, his loose arm and frame allow for plenty of growth and development. The Gulls Prep product is one of the top LHPs in the province.

Hayden Mayberry | 2028 | OF/RHP | Webber Wildcats | Uncommitted

Mayberry’s ability to have an impact all over the field is what allowed him to stand out both during the BAEL season and at the Western Canada Prospect Series (WCPS). At the plate he finished 7 for 16 with 4 doubles, a homerun, and 6 RBIs. His 1.375 OPS placed him 8th all-time at the WCPS. He contributed on the mound as well, throwing 4 innings without giving up an earned run and striking out 5. He can run his fastball up to the low 80s with arm speed that creates deception. At 5-foot-10, 155-pounds, Mayberry’s athleticism is evident on both sides of the ball. He’s a 6.9 runner with a mid-80s arm from the outfield, and there’s plenty of hand/bat speed at the dish that allows him to create additional impact. The Webber Wildcats product has a chance to continue as a two-way and is a 2028 worth following.
